Recipe Ingredients:

  • 2 eggs
  • ⅓ cup of warm milk (100ml)
  • ⅓ cup of warm water (100ml)
  • 3 ⅔ cups of all-purpose flour (450g)
  • 2 ½ teaspoons of active dry yeast (8g)
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil (30ml)
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • Cheese (for filling)
  • 1 egg and 2 teaspoons of milk (for brushing)

Instructions:

Dough Preparation:
First, gently warm the milk and water. Then, add the sugar and yeast, stirring well until all ingredients are fully incorporated. Cover the container and let it rest for about 5 minutes to activate the yeast. After that, add the eggs and mix again until the mixture is smooth.

Adding Flour and Kneading:
Next, sift the flour over the liquid mixture, add the salt, and stir until a dough begins to form. Right after, transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead it, gradually incorporating the vegetable oil, until it becomes elastic and uniform.

Fermentation:
After that, place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rest in a warm place for about 45–50 minutes, until it doubles in size.

Shaping the Bread:
Once the dough has risen, gently press it to release excess gas. Then, divide it into four equal parts and let it rest for another 20 minutes.

Shaping and Baking:
Next, stretch each portion of the dough, place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and poke small holes with a toothpick. Right after, insert pieces of hard cheese, such as mozzarella, into the holes. Finally, brush the surface with a mixture of egg and milk. Lastly, preheat the oven to 356 °F (180 °C) and bake for about 25–30 minutes, or until the bread turns golden brown.
